Ten Book Cover Trends I Like/Dislike

I totally judge books by their covers, but it's hard for me to notice trends unless they smack me in the face, such as the girl in gown craze.  But here are my top five likes and dislikes.

Likes

Clean and uncluttered.  A like the trend of just having a single image to focus on, be it a real object or a graphic.

Illustrated covers.  This trend is really becoming huge, and I'm sure I'll get sick of it.  Right now however, I am putting it on my like list.

An interesting font.  A script or something different will usually catch my eye, and I like that there have been so many covers that feature a non typical font.

Word Bubbles.  Something about a word bubble grabs me and makes me want to read the book.  It's a lot like the illustrated covers.

A Big Title.  I tend to like the trend of the title of the book filling out the entire cover.

Dislikes

Showing some back.  I tend to like covers that DON'T have people in them v. having them, but don't give me a back.  It's just rude.

The Big Face.  I hate this trend and it seems like it's been around forever.  I hate a bit giant face looking out from the cover.

No Information.  This refers to covers that tell you almost nothing about what the book is about. The covers can be very misleading about what the rest of the book is like.

The legs.  How many times have we seen this cover?  Too many for me. It's just so generic at this point.

The pretty dress.  We are moving away from this slowly but surely, but it still pops up way too often.  Now we are just seeing more back with the pretty dress.

"Waiting On" Wednesday (#51) Death Date by Victoria Laurie

6/18/2014

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week I'm picking:

Death Date by

From Goodreads:
Pretty Little Liars meets Medium in this fast-paced thriller and fantastic YA debut from a New York Times bestselling author

Maddie Fynn is a shy high school junior, cursed with an eerie intuitive ability: she sees a series of unique digits hovering above the foreheads of each person she encounters. Her earliest memories are marked by these numbers, but it takes her father's premature death for Maddie and her family to realize that these mysterious digits are actually death dates, and just like birthdays, everyone has one.

Forced by her alcoholic mother to use her ability to make extra money, Maddie identifies the quickly approaching death date of one client's young son, but because her ability only allows her to see the when and not the how, she's unable to offer any more insight. When the boy goes missing on that exact date, law enforcement turns to Maddie.

Soon, Maddie is entangled in a homicide investigation, and more young people disappear and are later found murdered. A suspect for the investigation, a target for the murderer, and attracting the attentions of a mysterious young admirer who maybe connected to it all, Maddie's whole existence is about to be turned upside down. Can she right things before it's too late?(

Why I'm Waiting:
I love this type of book.  It sounds much like the Marked series, which I adored.  It also seems very different from anything else.
