1/28/2015

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week I'm picking:

A School for Brides: A Story of Maidens, Mystery, and Matrimony by

Expected publication: July 14th 2015 by Viking Juvenile

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/23281631-a-school-for-brides?from_search=true

From Goodreads:

The Winthrop Hopkins Female Academy of Lesser Hoo, Yorkshire, has one goal: to train its students in the feminine arts with an eye toward getting them married off. This year, there are five girls of marriageable age. There’s only one problem: the school is in the middle of nowhere, and there are no men.  Set in the same English town as Keeping the Castle, and featuring a few of the same characters, here’s the kind of witty tribute to the classic Regency novel that could only come from the pen of Patrice Kindl!

Why I'm Waiting:

Keeping the Castle was a fun read, and this one looks like it will be equally fun.

Ten Books I'd Love to Read If I Had A Book Club

I don't belong to a book club. I tried a YA club for adults, but almost everyone was much younger than me, so I felt awkward. One of these days I will try going again, but I'm not sure. If I were to start one myself, this is what I would love to read, and I might one day.

A few years ago this book was the buzz of the ALA annual awards.  I think there would be a ton to talk about with this book.

Apparently this is a multi-tissue read.  I'm sure that there is a lot to discuss with this one.

The only book to ever win both the Printz and Morris award.  It has been on my TBR pile from the moment the awards were announced.

You can sub out pretty much any other John Green book for this one, and I'm sure it would make an excellent book for a book club.

This is supposed to be a pretty great dystopian novel.  I have heard nothing but good things about it from people I trust.

Another Alex award winner.  I have heard nothing but good things about this one, and I think there would be a lot to discuss about this one.

Another author that you can pretty much sub out any of their books and have an awesome discussion.  I picked this one because it's one of the few of hers I haven't read (yet).

"Waiting On" Wednesday (#74) Immaculate by Katelyn Detweiler

1/21/2015

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week I'm picking:

Immaculate by
Expected publication: May 26th 2015 by Viking Children's Books

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22608786-immaculate?from_search=true

From Goodreads:

Mina is seventeen. A virgin. And pregnant.

Mina is top of her class, girlfriend to the most ambitious guy in school, able to reason and study her way through anything. But when she suddenly finds herself pregnant—despite having never had sex—her orderly world collapses. Almost nobody believes Mina’s claims of virginity. Her father assumes that her boyfriend is responsible; her boyfriend believes she must have cheated on him. As news of Mina’s story spreads, there are those who brand her a liar. There are those who brand her a heretic. And there are those who believe that miracles are possible—and that Mina’s unborn child could be the greatest miracle of all.

Why I'm Waiting:

I generally avoid overly religious books, but this one looks like it has something more to it.  Plus, I've read some really good books in the past that do deal with questions about religion without being religious, or trying to promote religion.  Either way, it looks like it will be a very good read.

Top Ten Sequels I Can't Wait to Get My Hands On

I missed this when it was done back in November, so I am going with my list now.  I have been pretty careful about sequels in the past few years because I got overwhelmed by the number of them I had on my list.  There are also a couple that didn't make my list because I do have the ARCs, I just have to get to them.

Expected publication: April 21st 2015 by Greenwillow Books

I enjoyed the first one, it was good, not excellent, but it intrigued me enough that I plan to check the next one out.

Expected publication: April 7th 2015 by Putnam Juvenile

I love Rachel Hawkins, and this series about kick-butt southern bells is a lot of fun.  I feel like I've been waiting forever for it to come out, and it's soon!

Expected publication: March 10th 2015 by Candlewick Press

I honestly thought this series was done.  I'll be curious to see what this book is all about. This series has been deceptively good.  I don't love the books when I read them, but they are oddly memorable.

Expected publication: June 2nd 2015 by William Morrow & Company

One of my most anticipated books of 2015.  I am beyond excited to find out what happens next.  I think of Mia every once in a while, and can't wait to check in on her.  I honestly thought this series was done too, but I am thrilled that I was wrong.

Expected publication: February 10th 2015 by Razorbill

The final book in this excellent series.  I am going to miss these characters so much.  I can't wait to find out how it turns out.

Expected publication: February 10th 2015 by Putnam Juvenile

I've mentioned this before, but I loved the first book, kind of hated the second book.  I am really curious how this one is going to turn out.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22918050-the-heir
Expected publication: May 5th 2015 by HarperTeen

Yet another series I thought was over and done with. I was happy with the ending of book 3, so I am a little leery of this money grab of a 4th book.  I will still read it, and see what happens.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20868595-instinct
Expected publication: March 31st 2015 by St. Martin's Griffin

Another series that is deceptive on how memorable and addictive it is.  I never rush out to grab these books when they are published, but I do end up enjoying them while I read them. I have never read any of her adult books, but even without reading them, this series is enjoyable.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20753330-jubilee-manor
Expected publication: August 11th 2015

Another series where I found the first book to be very interesting, but I didn't love.  I will be curious to see how this one turns out.

Expected publication: June 2nd 2015 by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers

I am very much looking forward to this one.  I will find out in a few weeks if they are on target for that date, but from my understanding the book was overdue. I was told no ARCs will be made for it.

"Waiting On" Wednesday (#73) The Devil You Know by Trish Doller

1/14/2015

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week I'm picking:

The Devil You Know by
Expected publication: June 2nd 2015 by Bloomsbury USA Childrens

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22929537-the-devil-you-know?from_search=true

From Goodreads:

From critically-acclaimed author Trish Doller comes a powerful new psychological page-turner perfect for fans of Lauren Oliver and Sara Zarr.

Eighteen-year-old Arcadia wants adventure. Living in a tiny Florida town with her dad and four-year-old brother, Cadie spends most of her time working, going to school, and taking care of her family. So when she meets two handsome cousins at a campfire party, she finally has a chance for fun. They invite her and friend to join them on a road trip, and it's just the risk she's been craving-the opportunity to escape. But what starts out as a fun, sexy journey quickly becomes dangerous when she discovers that one of them is not at all who he claims to be. One of them has deadly intentions.

A road trip fling turns terrifying in this contemporary story that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

Why I'm Waiting:

Yes please.  This book sounds like it will be an exciting thriller.  I don't know if my blood pressure will be able to handle it, but it looks like it will be awesome.

Top Ten Tuesday (#76) (01/13/15) Top Ten 2014 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn't Get To

Top Ten 2014 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn't Get To

Putting together this list makes me so sad that I didn't get to some of the books that are on this list.  Books by some of my favorite authors were just never read.  I really hope I can get to them this year.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20820994-i-ll-give-you-the-sun

I waited for what seems like forever for Jandy Nelson to write another book, and once she did, I somehow didn't get a chance to read it.  The fact that it ended up on so many people's 10 best list from 2014 makes the fact that I didn't get to this one even worse.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18475596-only-everything

I've read everything that Kieran Scott has read under this name and almost everything that she has written under the Kate Brian name.  Somehow I didn't get to this one.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18339662-we-were-liars
Yet another one of my favorite authors that I somehow didn't get to.  When I think of all the bad or mediocre books I read last year, and then see books like this one end up on a list of books I didn't get to, actually kind of depresses me.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13206828-cress

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series, and to be fair I did get part way through this book, before getting into books that I either had to return to the library, or for some other reason.  I never got back to this one, which is just a shame.
