Teaser and Top Ten Tuesday (#30) (10/15/13)

10/15/2013

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

From pg. 45 of my ARC*

Her eyes bored into her daughter's.  She said in the gravest tone Eureka had ever heard: "Never, ever cry again."

*This is and ARC copy.  Page number and quotes may not be the same in the finished copy.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Top Ten Six Books I Was Forced to Read (either by teachers, friends, other bloggers, reviews)

I'm so sad.  This may be the first time I haven't been able to come up with 10 books for my list.  The problem is that I haven't been forced to read a book in a long time.  My reading is done completely on my own whims.  The other issue is that rarely have I enjoyed books that were forced on my by teachers or that I had to read for school.  Here is what I came up with:

The Catcher in the Rye by

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter #1) by

Perfect Chemistry (Perfect Chemistry #1) by

Speak by

I took a class on children's literature, and there were some great books I read for that, the ages covered were 0-14.  So most of the books didn't cover YA.  This was one of the few that did.  This book rocked my world.  I loved it.  It remains one of the best books I've ever read.

Monster (Monster #1) by

To Kill a Mockingbird by

  1. Never crying again could be hard! I've never read anything by this writer. Heard of her though.

  4. Bad advice. Crying is a great release. But I do like the Teaser anyhow.
My Teaser today is from KEEPSAKE.

  5. Ooh nice! Seeing Catcher quite a bit! That one never appealed to me. I think when I was forced to read so many books, my mind went off to my own world! So I can rarely remember why I hated such reads. It was so weird when one book finally stood out to me and kept me interested enough to read the complete version vs the abridged version that we read in class!

That book was my number 1 pick in the theme today!

    Here's my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

  8. Monster is supposed to be 'classic' YA I guess, but I've never read it. Sounds like an interesting book though! All the others on your list are ones that I liked as well, especially Speak and Harry Potter!

  9. Teardrop was my selection for this week's Waiting on Wed post. I have an ARC as well, but I have been holding off on reading it until closer to the release date. I hope you enjoy it!!

I completely understand about people in your family not reading as much as you. My Mom is the only exception. She reads mostly adult books, but I have convinced her to read a few of my YA series. Mostly...I have to rely on other bloggers if I want to discuss a book.
