Feature & Follow Friday (#30)

11/15/2013

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee’s View and Alison of Alison Can Read.

This week's Question:

Are there any book to movie adaptations where you think the movie is better than the book?

I can't think of a YA book where I liked the movie better.  I actually think they're all pretty bad.  So I'm going with a non-YA book.  The best example where the movie was much better than the book is:

I have a suspicion that most people have NOT read the book, but hopefully many of you have seen the movie. Basically, the main character in the book is a bit of a jerk the whole way through. In the movie Robert Redford does an excellent job of making you root for him and he is a very sympathetic character.

  1. I've definitely never seen nor even heard of this book-to-movie set. Sometimes the actors do help make the book come alive on-screen.

  2. I actually had no idea The Natural was a book, so that's good to know!

I had a hard time thinking of any movies that were better than the book, then I thought maybe The Hunt for Red October. That movie's kinda old now, but I remember liking it but couldn't ever really get into Tom Clancy's books, so maybe its better. :)

  9. I like YA movie adaptions. They're pretty fun to watch, but I don't really like comparing books to their fellow movie adaptions. It feels wrong. With most movie adaptions, the author isn't sharing their expectations and thoughts, and so it's more like two separate things based off the same idea. Do you think you'll like "The Fault in Our Stars" adaptation?

I haven't heard of The Natural. I think I'll look it up during some spare time.
