 Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2014

This one is hard because I got way behind on my reading this past year.  I read less then half of what I read in 2013,  and I'm blaming the baby.  Here are the new to me authors that I did read.

Jason Reynolds

Love, Love, Loved this book.  The picture is after I read the book and totally fan-girled him at ALA last summer.  Not only is the book amazing, but he's pretty great too.

Heather Demetrios

I was unsure about reading this book at first, but it turned out to be so much better than I expected.  I thought it was engaging and thoughtful. 

Stasia Ward Kehoe

I don't read much books written in verse, but I should probably read more of them, because those that I have read are beautiful.  This one is no exception. 

Markus Zusak

Took me FOREVER to read this book.  I really felt like I was one of the only people in America who hadn't read it.  It was pretty amazing.

Kendare Blake

Another author I am ashamed I hadn't read before this year.  I've been meaning to read Anna Dressed in Blood for forever, and I will get to it eventually, but in the meantime, I really enjoyed this one.

Emery Lord

I loved this book, it was so beautifully written. The characters and the story were so memorable. I look forward to reading so many more books from her in the future.

Mary Elizabeth Summer

A nice twist on the genre, it was well written and kept me entertained.  I found the characters to be likable, and the author is pretty unafraid of angering readers by tossing in an unexpected twist, so I actually find that to be refreshing.

Bethany Neal

This one was very reminiscent of Before I Fall, but it had a interesting difference.  I thought it was really well done.

Bethany Hagan

Yes it's another dystopian, but I found it to be a good twist on it. I look forward to the next book to see how the story plays out.

Cat Patrick

Another author where I'm a little late to the party.  I found this book to be really well done, and made me think.

Top Ten Eight Books People Have Been Telling You That You MUST Read

This is really hard because almost nobody tells me that I must read a book.  I am usually the one that doles out recommendations.  But here are my best efforts.

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #1) by Rick Riordan

I know this is middle grade, but people have told me that it's amazing.  I love Harry Potter, so I'm sure I would love this too.

Obsidian (Lux #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Last week people said to give this one a chance.  I know people love it, maybe one day.

Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna #1) by Kendare Blake

Another book that has been highly recommended to me.  I will read it eventually.

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

People have told me that this book is amazing.  One day I'll read it.

 

Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys

I've heard that this book is absolutely beautiful.  I've been meaning to get to it for years.

Catching Jordan (Hundred Oaks #1) by Miranda Kenneally

If there was ever a book that was exactly my type, this would be it.  I have been told by numerous people that I would love it.  It has been on my short list of books to read for 3 years running.  I will get to it at some point.

Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta

I've been told that this book is awesome and that I would love it.  I will get to it eventually.

Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices #1) by Cassandra Clare

I've read the first couple of books in the Mortal Instruments series, and I've been told these are just as good.

Top Ten Scariest Looking Book Covers

Fun topic.  Many of these cover I would call creepy more than I would say scary, but I'm tossing them in. I will say I have not read most of these, although I own the majority.

13 to Life (13 to Life #1) by Shannon Delany

The eye in the sky i s the thing that creeps me out about this cover.

Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna #1) by Kendare Blake

So creepy, and so good.  I really need to read this one.

Ashes (Ashes Trilogy #1) by Ilsa J. Bick

This cover is so unbelievably creepy to me.  The eyes are what do it.

Darkwater by Catherine Fisher

Gargoyles, Chimeras, and the like have always freaked me out.  This cover kind of scares the crud out of me. 

The Fallout (The Compound #2) by S.A. Bodeen

The hand coming out from the man-hole cover is just so freaky.  I haven't read this series yet, but it looks scary.

Reckless (Mirrorworld #1) by Cornelia Funke

I know this book is more magic, but that glowing green face is just creepy.

The Space Between by Brenna Yovanoff

This cover is both beautiful and creepy at the same time.  I have read this one, and it's a perfect cover.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (Miss Peregrine #1) by Ransom Riggs

The cover is just one of the many creepy photos in this book, and the photos are by far the best part of the book.

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

Yeah, that figure stalking?  So scary.

The Fear (The Enemy #3) by Charlie Higson

This cover scares me.  That skull/face.  I may have nightmares.  I haven't read the series, and I don't know if I can.  So scary.
