"Waiting On" Wednesday (#1) Midnight Frost

This week I'm picking Midnight Frost (book 5 in the Mythos Academy series) by Jennifer Estep.

Why I'm waiting on it:

I am really excited to see what happens next in this series.  It has been one of my favorites and I can always count on an action packed fast read.  If you haven't read this series, I really encourage you to check it out.

Honestly, I've been stuck on this book for a while.  I know it will pick up, but I'm bored.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

  
February 26:  Top Ten Authors That I'd Put On My Auto-Buy List (basically an auto-buy list is no questions asked..you love this author so much that no matter what they wrote next you'd buy regardless of genre or subject matter)

This is actually really hard for me.  There are only about 5 authors that fall into this category that have multiple books out.  I usually buy my books on sale, or I borrow them from the library.  I will round out this out with authors that I want to keep my eye on.  These are authors who only have one series, but I own all the books in that series and will probably try their next ventures.

1. Sarah Dessen--As this blog goes on, my love and adoration of Sarah Dessen will be obvious.  I just adore all her books and have them all looking so beautiful on my shelves.
2. Maggie Stiefvater--I went to one of her signings, and she said she would sign as many books of hers that we brought, we just needed to buy one from the store.  This was very hard for me, because I already own everything she's written. 
3. Gayle Forman--Even though I still need to read Just One Day, I own it, and every other book she's written.
4. Jennifer Echols--Sad confession, I own all her books, but have not read them all. I keep hoping to change that, and I will soon.
5. Stephanie Perkins--She's only written two so far, but they are both sitting on my shelf with love.  I even re-bought Anna when it was on sale for $2.99 for my nook.  Once Isla hits the pre-order list, I will probably buy it.
6. Jennifer E. Smith--After Reading The Statistical Probability of Love at First sight, I went back a bought a few more.  This is an author I'm really getting behind.   
7. Brodi Ashton--I loved the first two books in the Everneath series, and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next. She's earned a place here by writing two fantastic books.
8. Veronica Roth--See above.  I look forward to the next series to see if it's as worthy.
9. Jandy Nelson--Paging Jandy Nelson: If you would PLEASE write another book, I will buy it no questions asked.  I LOVED The Sky is Everywhere, and there has been nothing since.
10. Rachel Hawkins--I'm including her on this list, because I have eventually owned all her books.  She has enough books coming out in the next year or so that she may break my bank.

The Madness Underneath (Shades of London #2) by Maureen Johnson

Let me start this review off by saying that I LOVED The Name of the Star. It was the first book I had ever read of Maureen Johnson’s and I fell in love.  It was my 8^th favorite book from 2011 (8^th out of 92). So that’s saying a lot. I was eagerly anticipating the follow-up and I felt like I had to wait forever for it to come out. When I saw it was available from NetGalley I jumped at it, and tore right in. I’m sad to say I was pretty disappointed. 

It’s not a bad book, and trust, I’ve read some pretty bad books.  It just wasn’t as good as the first book, and I was actually annoyed for much of it. I think my main problem was with Rory. She spent most of book trying to get over what had occurred in the first book. She was dealing with some PTSD issues and that’s totally understandable, but at some point as a reader I just wanted her to get over it. It was frustrating to see such a strong character from the previous book to completely fall apart for an entire book. For the first half, I could probably handle that, but the whole thing? No. The other thing I HATED was the end. I don’t want to get too spoilery, but something very bad happens to one of the major characters, and I was actually pretty angry about it. I’m curious to see where the story goes, but I can’t see where I’m going to be happy with the outcome or not find it completely ridiculous. 

There were some positives in the book for me. I thought it was really well written.  I still haven’t gotten a chance to read any of the author’s other works, but if it’s as well written as this, than I’m sure I’ll love it. Another positive is the pacing of the book. A book that has bad pacing is always going to be killer for me. The characters remain strongly written, although I don’t really think I learned anything new about anyone from the previous books. 

Bottom Line:  I was disappointed, but I'll still read the next book in the series just to see where it goes. I have to trust that the author will not disappoint in the end.

Feature & Follow Friday (1)

 I believe I'm going to give this meme a try

This weeks Question:

We always talk about books that WE want. Let’s turn it on its head. What books have you given other people lately?

 This is a great question, because for the most part, I'm the only one in my circle who reads YA. So I have to be really careful about what I push on them.  These are the books I have gifted to the people in my life



This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen is probably my favorite book.  I was at ALA-Midwinter and in line with a young girl who asked me what my favorite book was, and this was it.  Penguin had copies of books for sale and I bought her this one.  I have to pass on my love for this book.



Losing It by Cora Carmack. My best friend is the only one I can push YA off on, and that's only on occasion.  She has been reading a lot of adult books, so I sent her this one in hopes of moving her in a more YA direction.


How to Swear Around the World by Jason Sacher & Toby Triumph. It's a rare day that I can get my husband to read let alone read YA. I can push the occasional YA audio book on him, but that's a struggle. This book however is right in his wheelhouse, and so far he's loving it.

A Friday Five

Each Friday I'll feature one of my favorite books or a book I read in the last week and come up 5 words to describe it.  View it as a super mini review.  This week I'm featuring There You'll Find Me by Jenny B. Jones

I picked this book because this happens to be the last book I read.  My five words are:

• Surprising
• Sweet
• Thoughtful 
• Sincere 
• Hopeful

 Surprising because I didn't think I would like it as much as I did.  I'm not a huge fan of religious books and any book where religion is a huge part of it usually annoys me and I end up hating the book.  This was well done.  I did find the religious parts sometimes jarring, but it didn't take away from the story.  Sweet because it's a really sweet story, with a sweet romance.  Thoughtful because the MC spent a lot of time analyzing things and it was full of her thoughts.  Sincere because the whole book felt like it has a very sincere tone.  Hopeful because it ends on such a hopeful note.  

TBR Thursday (#1)

I have seen on a few blogs a Meme called TBR Thursday which focuses on a book that's on our TBR shelf that we plan to read within the next week.  I'm going to give that a try on this blog.  So this week my TBR book of the week is:

Finale (Book 4 in the Hush, Hush series) by Becca Fitzpatrick

I picked this book from my list because I had it in my reading plan last year when it was released, but I STILL haven't read yet.  I'm not sure why I have waited so long to read this, it's been a series I have liked but not loved.  It's the end, time to put this one to bed finally.

Giving it a try

I keep saying that I hate writing and have no desire to have a blog, and maybe that's true, but maybe this time it will work.  I love books, I love talking about books, I love visiting other blogs, and so maybe it's time to have this space of my own.
