Feature & Follow Friday (#26)

9/27/2013

This week's Question:

Reading Nook Tour!

Yeah, I'm pretty lame when it comes to a reading nook.  Really it's anywhere and everywhere.  But if I'm being completely honest, the vast majority of my reading is done here:

Yes, that would be my barely made bed.  I may have just been sitting in it when I jumped out to take the picture.  Because not only is it my reading nook, it's my blogging nook, my TV watching nook, it's my pretty much my everything nook.  Outside of work, it's probably where I spend most of my time.  I fully expect this to change soon, but for the next couple months, this is my place.  Now before this month began, I also did a lot of reading in my other "nook":

I did a lot of reading on my commute to work on the DC metro.  But we started driving in this month and I lost all that awesome reading time, which makes me sad.  We'll probably go back to the Metro sometime next year, but I don't know when.

This week's Question:

What were some of your favorite picture books as a kid? If you have kids, what are your favorites to read to them?

I love this question.  Even as a kid I loved books and loved to read.  Here are some of my favorites from childhood:

Fox in Socks by (My poor dad had to read this to my brother and I constantly)
Where the Wild Things Are by
Where the Sidewalk Ends by
I don't have kids yet, but there are definitely a few favorites that have come out recently.  I actually buy and read tons of picture books, and here are some of my favorites.  My child will be sure to have a copy of these books.

Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons (Pete the Cat) by
I Want My Hat Back by
Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale (Knuffle Bunny #1) by (or really anything by Mo)

This week's Question:

If you could only have ONE – one book – for the rest of your life. Don’t cheat…what would it be?

Yeah, I have no clue.  I have to imagine I would get sick of the same book over and over again.  The first book that pops into my mind though is This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen.  I don't think I can ever get enough of Dexter.

Book Selfie! Take a pic with your current read.

What fun!  Here is my head and the book I'm reading.

This week's Question:

Share something you’ve learned about book blogging or just blogging in general in the last month.

I am excited to report that I learned some new HTML skills not only in the past month but in the past week.  I learned how to shadow a section of text to make it stand out.  And for me I learned the more difficult task of putting a box around some text.  It took me a while, and some searching, but I did it.  I was so proud of myself.

Have a great weekend everyone!

This week's Question:

Back to school. Create a reading list for the imaginary English Lit class you’ll be teaching this semester.

How Fun!  So the way I remember each unit consisted of about 4 weeks, so I am maxing out on about 4 books.  So now the question is which four books, and for which grade?  For the grade I'm going with 9th or 10th grade.

I think this is a good mix of both classic and new literature.  I think all are important books to read.  I would hope that the students would get value out of these books and they would appreciate them.

This week's Question:

What do you do with your books after you’re done reading them?

Much to my husband's dismay I keep them.  I have boatloads of books that are all over the house.  I will say I have been better about getting rid of my books by trying to swap them out on things like Paperback Swap, but I still haven't figured out what to do about the ARCs.  I've been thinking about a category on my Trade/Giveaway list that has "Read Once" heading, but I haven't gotten that far yet.  Plus some of my ARCs are signed, and personalized.  I have no clue what to do with those other than to just toss them?  These are ARCs where I own the finished copy in some format, be it print or an ebook.  Whatever I decide, I desperately need to find a home for books that I have read, that I will probably never read again.

This week's Question:

Q: Today’s is the US’ Independence Day. Share your favorite book with a war in it, or an overthrow of the government.

This is another tough question for me.  My mind immediately goes to dystopian novels, so I guess my favorites would be:

This week's Question:

Q: Activity: Spine Poetry. Create a line of poetry with your book spines (take a picture). Not feeling creative? Tell us about your favorite poem.

Well I'm a very uncreative person, so my poem is very short and sweet.  Enjoy!

Born of Illusion,
Hanging by a Thread,
Icons
Crash and Burn

Sadly, I've read none of theses...

Share your poetry, or a link to your FF below.  Have a great weekend everyone!

This week's Question:

Q: Have you broken up with a series? If so which one and why?

Interesting question!  My answer is both Yes and No.  Yes, there are two series that I broke up.  The first was when I was a teen I broke up with the Sweet Valley High books.  I got older, and there were just too many of them, plus all the spinoffs.  Out they went.  More recently (last 5 years), I broke up with the Vampire Diaries books.  The first 4 were fine, and I actually read them before the show came out, and then after the show was on the air, they came out with the 5th book.  It was SO bad that I couldn't bring myself to read any more.

There are a few series who I should have broken up with long ago, and yet I'm still reading them.  Examples are James Patterson's Witch and Wizard and The House of Night series.  I kind of hate both, and yet I'm still reading them.  I'm not sure why.

Then there are the others. These are generally trilogies, or shorter series, where I didn't really like the first book, so I'm in no hurry to read the others, or have no plans to.

That being said, I do find some satisfaction in finishing a series, particularly if it's lasted a long time.

This week's Question: Is there a song that reminds you of a book? Or vice versa? What is the song & the book?
Nothing immediately comes to mind sometimes I'll listen to a song and it will remind me of the book I'm currently reading, but then I promptly forget about it.
