Top Ten Tuesday (#88) (04/21/15) Top Twelve ALL TIME Favorite YA Authors

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Top Twelve ALL TIME Favorite YA Authors

I just couldn't limit it to ten.  Really, I almost need to have it at 20, but I got it down to twelve.  Because this is a YA blog, I am limiting it to just YA authors.  I only really started reading YA again about eight years ago which is a testament to how many great YA authors are out there.  An even bigger issue is that sometime I find an author to be ON FIRE for a series, but later books just aren't as good.  So I get to eliminate authors where I've only read a single book or a single series by an author.  This list would also look a lot different if I included my favorite children's/picture book authors, or authors geared for an adult audience.  But here are my 12.  Excuse the gratuitous author shots on these.  I have have been fortunate enough to meet most of the authors on this list, I just either didn't get a photo or I look so god awful, I just couldn't bring myself to post the photo.  For those authors I haven't met yet, I hope I get to soon.

I was shaking when I met her.  Speak was one of my gateway books to YA, and it remains one of the best books I've ever read.  Meeting her was SUCH an honor.

His books just speak to me.  I'm not sure if it's because of where I live, and my experiences growing up, but I just love his stories.  He's not only an amazing writing, but he is so awesome in person too.  He's just one of those super cool people that you want to hang out with all the time.

Sigh.  I don't know how many times I have brought her up in this blog, but she is hands down my favorite author.  Her books end, and I just feel this tremendous sadness that I have to say goodbye to her characters.  All of her characters, both the main and secondary characters are so well written, it makes it so hard to let them go.

Ally Carter's books are just loads of fun. She writes the kinds of books where you want to be as awesome as the girls, and wish you were dating the boys.

Another author I've talked about a ton of times, and with good reason. Her writing is beautiful and engaging, power and beautiful.  I have adored everything she's written.  I've actually met her, and had her sign all the books I own by her (which at the time was all of them), I guess I just didn't get a picture.

She made the list, because she has had two series that I read and loved.  I am counting them as separate series, even though they have many overlapping characters.  I can't wait to see what she comes up with next for her YA audience.  I've got to meet her at BEA the one and only time I went, just no pictures with her.

I don't know if she is truly appreciated enough for what she does.  I can always count on her to write a romance that will have humor along with taking on some serious topics.  They are always readable, and I always look forward to her books.

I've said it a ton of times, but I loved Ruby Oliver.  But it's not just Ruby Oliver books, it's everything she's written.  I didn't expect to love The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau Banks as much as I did, but it was amazing.  And if you haven't read We Were Liars yet, do yourself a favor and check it out.  It's stunning.

I love her books.  The first one I read was The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, and I can't imagine skipping any books she releases from here on out.

If you are not following her on twitter, I recommend you do so.  She's hilarious.  It doesn't hurt that her books are tons of fun too.  I've also been fortunate to meet her as well, but another where I either didn't get a picture, or it's lost in the abyss of my photos.

I absolutely love her books.  Even those that weren't necessarily the book I wanted, I still loved if nothing else how amazingly they are written.

Yes, she's only written two books, but man they were both awesome.  I feel like I waited forever to read another book by her after The Sky is Everywhere, but I'll Give You the Sun was totally worth the wait.

  1. I now wish I could have done a top 20 because I missed some pretty amazing authors. I wish I had put Maggie Stiefvater, Richelle Mead and Sarah Dessen in my list. Awesome list of authors. Don't worry, I added pics of me with authors, too.

  7. Maggie Stiefvater was on my list too, I also like Ally Carter but I didn't have enough space to put her on my list. Speak is on my to be read list so I hope it's as good as you seem to think it is.
