A Friday Five (#10) The Elite (The Selection #2) by Kiera Cass

5/10/2013

Each Friday I'll feature one of my favorite books or a book I read in the last week and come up 5 words to describe it.  View it as a super mini review.  This week I'm featuring The Elite (The Selection #2) by

I had intended to write a full review of this, but never got around to it.  So it gets the Friday Five treatment instead.  Here are my five words:

  1. Bloated
  2. Fickle
  3. Juvenile
  4. Memorable
  5. Puzzling

Bloated: You know those stories you hear of an agent selling a single book to the publishers as a trilogy when all along the author had intended it as a single book?  I'm not sure if this is one of those trilogies, but it easily could be. I found much of this book to be unnecessary and useless. This could have been cut down to about a hundred pages.

Fickle:  This is the perfect word to describe the main character.  If I had to read about her changing her mind one more time...

Juvenile:  Speaking of the MC, she may also be one of the most juvenile immature characters that I have read in a long time.  There is no way that I would want to be friends with her in real life, and I may just want to punch her in the face often.  I kind of hate her.

Memorable:  For good or bad, this series is memorable.  I can honestly say I had no problems picking up right where the last one left off, and since nothing much happened in this book, I should have no problem reading the final book.

Puzzling:  I have yet to figure out the point of this book.  The whole thing was puzzling.  We really didn't learn anything new. Things happened to some secondary characters, but in in general I'm left completely puzzled about the whole thing.

Now I was kind of mean, but I will read the final book.  Hopefully it all comes together, and I can determine if this really needed to be a trilogy.

  1. Wow - I have heard such good things about this book, but now I am not so sure I want to read it. With so many books and so little time, I think I will hold off on this for awhile.

  3. Ohgoodness, this made me laugh. I haven't read The Elite yet, but I have read The Selection, and, I must admit.

I liked The Selection. I liked it quite a bit, but...

I definitely cannot disagree with you. For me, The Selection was one of those 'I can feel my brain melting, and I couldn't care less' books. I shouldn't be surprised that The Elite is any different. I'm still gonna read it.

  4. The 5 words is fun. I def had a good time with this book and also had no problem picking up where Selection left off. But I do know what you mean about fickle

  6. I enjoyed the first one. I wouldn't say it was incredible or anything. It was easy, fun, and I really liked the premise for the story. That being said, I'm really hoping some action will appear in the next books. I feel like it is a little too focused on the love triangle, and instead, I'd love to see more develop with the rebel attacks.
