Teaser and Top Ten Tuesday (#24) 09/03/13

9/03/2013

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Maybe later tonight hell will freeze over and donkeys will start flying out of my ass. It all seems possible at this point.

Top Ten Books That You Wish Were Taught In Schools

This is a little hard for me, because more often than not, I think teaching books in schools tends to ruin an otherwise very good book.  There were very few books that I actually liked that I had to read in school, and even those books I liked, by time we finished analyzing the books, taking tests, and writing papers, I had negative feelings towards the books.  So in a hypothetical world, where teaching doesn't ruin a book, these are those that I think should be taught.

Eleanor and Park by

So many issues to discuss in this one.  Family dynamics, friendship, parental relationships, bullying, and cultural history.  Good stuff all around.

The Truth About Forever by

Why?  Because no TTT would be comeplete without a Sarah Dessen book.  But really, I picked this one because it deals with some interesting issues including family issues as well as dealing with an unexpected loss and how to move on from it.

The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games #1) by

This may be a bit of a stretch, but I think it deals with some interesting issues including, some morality issues.  As well as survival issues.  Plus it's a great book.

  3. I haven't read Eleanor & Parker yet, but I need to! I agree with Looking for Alaska and Speak - they are hard-hitting, for sure.

    Happy Tuesday!

  4. Oooh nice picks!! I think any Sarah Dessen book would be good for some reading. Although, probably best if it was an all-girl class!

    Great tease too!

  5. I hope to try 13 Reasons Why again. I couldn't get into when I tried. I heard that it was getting made into a movie with Selena Gomez. Not sure if that's actually happening though.

  6. Great picks for TTT! I feel like any book of Sarah Dessen's could be used in the classroom. I still need to read Eleanor & Park... especially with Fangirl coming out soon. Perhaps I'll just pick them both up and read them both, haha. I've been seeing lots of John Green books and Hunger Games today, love them both!

    Nice choices :)
