Teaser and Top Ten Tuesday (#4) 03/19/13

3/19/2013

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

From page 35: "'Mermaids can breath underwater, right?'"
"Lately he's been really into playing pirates, and I could go for that right now."

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This Week's list is Top Ten Books I HAD To Buy...But Are Still Sitting On My Shelf Unread
As always, it will be hard to limit this list to just 10 books.  Why? Why?!?!  I have hinted in other places that I own a whole lot of books. I have this nasty little habit of buying books and not reading them. I tend to give first priority to the books that I check out from the library, because they have a deadline on them.  Well that means I don't have time for the books I bought. I keep telling myself I will get better, and I try to borrow less, but I never succeed.  So here is my list:

Just One Day (Just One Day #1) by
This has been my top book to read that's been published in 2013, and I still haven't read it.  I ended up getting my copy at ALA Midwinter, and I was so lucky, and so happy, and yet it's sitting on my shelf.

The Evolution of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer #2) by
I LOVED the first Mara Dyer book, and I was so excited to read this one. I won it, and I was anticipating it so long, and I still look at it longingly sitting on my shelf unread.

Where Things Come Back by
The Day this book won the Printz and Morris awards I was at ALA-Midwinter.  I actually saw the author in the Simon & Schuster booth, and he is REALLY cute.  That night I decided to support him and the book by buying it.  Still haven't read it.

Out of Sight, Out of Time (Gallagher Girls #5) by
Last year around this time I went to a signing with Ally Carter and Rachel Hawkins for this book and the one below.  I love both authors and love other books in these series.  It's still sitting there.

Spell Bound (Hex Hall #3) by
See above, but worse.  They didn't have enough of these books for the author to sign, so I ordered a copy, she signed it at her next stop, it was shipped to the store that held the signing, I had to go WAY out of my way to pick it up, and I haven't read it.

Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna #1) by
Another book I won that I was so excited to get.  This was one of the books I wanted most to read in 2011 but hadn't gotten to.  Still haven't read it, or it's sequel that are still sitting on the shelf.

Forget You by
I think I may have mentioned this, but I have all her YA books.  I have bought them all.  I've read 2.  What makes this worse is that I own it as both a print book AND a ebook.  I've spent money twice on a book I have yet to read.

Perfect Chemistry (Perfect Chemistry #1) by
I've had this check out of the library as a print book, as an e-book and both went back unread.  I bought it, and still it sits on my shelf unread.

Hunting Lila (Lila #1) by
I usually never pay full price for book.  The only time is when I go to a signing at a book store.  I paid full price for this book because I HAD to read it.  Still haven't read it.

Sisters Red (Fairytale Retellings #1) by
I had this on my list for what seems like forever. I actually own every book Jackson Pearce has written and have not read a single one. I follow her on twitter, I watch her vlogs, and yet I haven't read her books. I ran to get her to sign all the books at ALA last year, and told myself I would read a book last year, and yet I haven't. Worst yet, I own this as both the print book and as an ebook.

  4. Interesting teaser! I refuse to buy fiction books and only check them out from the library. If I love it then I'll buy it. That solved half of my problem now I just have to deal with all the unread non-fiction that is piled all around me.

My teaser come from Eight Cousins by Louisa May Alcott.
